History
OTC Services and SGB-SMIT have a rich
January 27, 1913 Willem Smit founds a transformer factory in Nijmegen
November 2, 1940 Founded in 1946 to supply transformers to a U.S. government magnesium reduction plant.
August 22, 1962 Ohio Transformer relocates to Canton, Ohio and expands product line.
December 7, 1985 Expansion gave expanded capacity with 100-ton overhead crane with a 37 foot hook height.
March 11, 2004 Assets were sold to General Electric and facility closed.
September 14, 2007 Operation restarted and prior management recruited to run operations.
September 30, 2011 The facility changes name to OTC Services.
May 2, 2012
April 11, 2013 SMIT celebrates 100th anniversary and is awarded the courtesy title “Royal”. Name also changes to Royal SMIT Transformers B.V.
