OTC Powers Productivity

With experience dating back to the 1970s, OTC Services, Inc. holds it’s position as the industry standard for the remanufacturing and repair of dry-type and liquid-filled transformers for both industrial and utility clients. Now, with the OTC integration into the SGB-SMIT Group, we now bring over 100 years of design and manufacturing experience to the transformer market.

We are ideally located in Northern Ohio and provide dedicated rail access, large truck delivery and a 100-ton overhead crane. Our location, accessibility  and state-of-the-art facilities streamline the process and provide you the most efficient service and aggressive lead times in the industry.

At OTC, our on-site engineers assure the proper assessment, manufacture, remanufacture, or repair of your project. We stand behind our new and remanufactured transformers with new product warranties for peace of mind.

History

OTC Services and SGB-SMIT have a rich histories dating back to 1913 .

SMIT Transformer Founded

January 27, 1913

Willem Smit founds a transformer factory in Nijmegen

Ohio Transformer Founded

November 2, 1940

Founded in 1946 to supply transformers to a U.S. government magnesium reduction plant.

Ohio Transformer Relocates

August 22, 1962

Ohio Transformer relocates to Canton, Ohio and expands product line.

High-Bay Expansion

December 7, 1985

Expansion gave expanded capacity with 100-ton overhead crane with a 37 foot hook height.

Assets Sold to GE

March 11, 2004

Assets were sold to General Electric and facility closed.

Facility Reopens

September 14, 2007

Operation restarted and prior management recruited to run operations.

Company Renamed OTC Services

September 30, 2011

The facility changes name to OTC Services.

SGB-SMIT Acquires OTC Services

May 2, 2012

100th Anniversary

April 11, 2013

SMIT celebrates 100th anniversary and is awarded the courtesy title “Royal”. Name also changes to Royal SMIT Transformers B.V.
